The legal framework, in short

Under the Criminal Code, gambling is run or licensed by the provinces; in Manitoba that means PlayNow.com, operated by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries. Manitoba has no licensing system for private online casinos: PlayNow.com, run in the province by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, is the only provincially authorised site, and offshore platforms operate without provincial oversight. Using an offshore site is not an offence for the player; the trade-off is weaker protection and slower dispute resolution. You must be 18 or older to gamble in Manitoba; age is verified with documents at the latest at the first cash-out.

Gambling responsibly in Thompson

First and foremost, gambling is a paid pastime. Keep clear money and time limits, and do not play after drinking or when you are upset. If gambling becomes a worry, the Manitoba Gambling Helpline (1-800-463-1554) is free, confidential and available to everyone in Manitoba, Thompson included. Most platforms also offer cooling-off periods and self-exclusion from a few days to several years.
